From a Small Crew to Arizona’s Standard
In late 1949, when Fuller Thomas closed its Arizona office, two determined men — Bud Barrett and Guy Ray Homes — decided the work was too important to stop. In January 1950 they founded Barrett-Homes Contractors.
Bud, an engineer and former general manager, handled the business side. Guy, who loved working with his hands, ran the field crews. They began with insulation and pipe covering, operating from a modest warehouse behind Guy’s home and Bud’s home office.
Within a short time they became one of Arizona’s few specialized acoustical contracting firms and secured early Armstrong Cork franchise rights for the Phoenix area. As Arizona grew, so did Barrett-Homes — expanding into specialty ceilings and walls, demolition and general contracting.
Today, still based at 4350 N 42nd Avenue in Phoenix, Barrett-Homes remains a locally owned specialty contractor with three generations of one Arizona family having contributed to its legacy.
